If we continue to abuse our paradise...
aren't we condemning ourselves to live in hell?

GOB - Ecologists of  Balearic Islands

After 27 years working for the defence of the environment, has obtained important objectives:  the protection of natural areas of great ecological value, the recovery of species in danger of extinction, the initiation of environmental measures such as the saving of resources or recycling, or making environment education reach 100,000 students.

All this has only been possible thanks to the support of 5,000 members, volunteers, thousands of sympathisers, firms and foundations who believe in the environment, people responsible for the Administration who have listened to and carried out our answers..  In effect, a numerous group of individuals and organisations involved in the improvement of the future of our Islands.

Unfortunately, all this effort is not enough. A quick look round the territory shows us a frightening panorama.  New urbanisation, golf courses watered with drinking water, virgin coastal areas sacrificed for second homes, etc., all this damages our land, and also the quality of life that had always distinguished these Islands.

For all this, support is needed.  We need more people, more organisations, more firms who wish to support a sustainable future, far from the economic collapse that means dying from success.

In Mallorca, the water consumption increases by 7% per year.  To obtain it via desalinisation plants, we need more power, and therefore more power stations.

In Mallorca, the power consumption is increased by 10% per year. By installing new power stations we will increase the issue of CO2 and contribute to climatic change.
If we continue to abuse this paradise, we will end up in hell.

In Mallorca, the production of waste increased by over 9% in 1999.  Only by reducing and recycling can we avoid chaos.
In the Balearics, every year 40,000 new residential places are approved.  Our beaches, coasts and infrastructure are saturated.
