Thousands of people amongst Miquel Barcelo's paintings

From the day of the opening, Wednesday April 30, thousands of people have gone through the Llotja in Palma to visit the retrospective exhibition of Miquel Barceló. The day of the opening, attended by the artist, already many persons visited the exhibition and during the first days of May it has received over 6,000 visits. The exhibition, open until August 31, groups twenty one big format paintings created between 1983 and 2003 by the famous Mallorcan artist Miquel Barceló (Felanitx, 1957) and it is divided in four sections that feature all the important series that the artist has carried out since his exhibition at the Documenta in Kassel in 1982.

The show is part of the cycle "Miquel Barceló a les Illes Balears" organised by the Fundació Balears 21 and commissioned by the Mallorcan artist Enrique Juncosa (director of the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin) which has also reached the Museu d'Art Contemporani in Eivissa, the square outside the Town Hall of Sant Francesc Xavier in Formentera, the Museum of Menorca in Maó and the Roser in Ciutadella.

Miquel Barceló is now working on the ceramic cover and the decoration of the chapel of Sant Pere in the Palma Cathedral. There is more information about the artist and his work in the web of the Fons Documental Miquel Barceló de Artà.

The entrance is free and the visiting times are from Tuesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 12 midnight. Monday closed.
