Mallorca pro Peace

Last Friday, March 12, the citizens of Mallorca demonstrated en masse in Palma, to express their rejection of the brutal terrorist attack in Madrid and to show their solidarity with the victims.

Thousands of people of all ages joined the largest demonstration that has ever taken place on the island. The event started in the plaza de Espanya and ended in the Parc de la Mar, with the political representatives leading the crowd.

The propagators of the terrorist attack is still a subject of discussion, but after the communication from ETA published in the newspaper Gara, everything points towards integrist Moslems.

UPDATE (14/03/2004)

Shortly after midnight the Home Minister, Ángel Acebes appeared in a press conference to explain that at 7.40 p.m. a male voice speaking in Spanish with an Arab accent had phoned Telemadrid to communicated that in a particular point of the M-30 road a protest video of the terrorist attack on 11M could be found. According to Acebes, the video contains a declaration by Abu Dukhan al-Afgani, who as the military spokesman for the Al-Qaeda in Europe claims the source of the attack. A few hours before, the Home Minister had announced the arrest of three Moroccans and two Indians presumed to have been implicated in the terrorist action.
