"La Isla del holandés", a film made on Eivissa, Formentera,
Valencia and Barcelona, will reach cinemas throughout Spain on October
5, in
Catalan and Spanish.
The film, based on the novel by the Valencian writer, Ferran Torrent,
is the first full feature film directed also by the Valencian, Sigfrid
Monleón. The cast is comprised of: Pere Ponce, Cristina
Plazas, Feodor Atkine, Juli Mira, Roger Casamajor, Francesc Garrido, Dafnis
Balduz and Emma Vilarasau, amongst others.
"La Isla del holandés" is an imaginary story that takes place
on an island to which, in 1969, during the Franquist regime, a university
professor is deported because of his political activity. The plot,
full of romanticism, is part of the debate between development and preservation
of nature, between progress and preservation of one's own identity, with
the inevitable presence of some authorities with shady interests.
