The town of Sant Joan will celebrate next Sunday, March 10, the "Festa
des Pa i es Peix", also known as the "Quart Diumenge de Quaresma" (Fourth
Sunday in Lent).
The "Festa des Pa i es Peix", that has been held at the Santuari de
Consolació in Sant Joan for many years, remembers the biblical episode
of the multiplying of the loaves and fishes by Jesus. The events will start
at 10.30 a.m. with the walk from the parish church to the Sanctuary, accompanied
by the xeremiers and pipers from Sant Joan. At the Sanctuary there will
be the traditional flower offering to the Virgin, the religious service
and the distribution of the traditional "coquetes", blessed rolls that
are marked with the five loaves and two fishes of the miracle.
The activities will continue all day with an exhibition by the local
School Son Juny, a popular dance with music by Aires de Pagesia de Sant
Joan and a concert by the Banda Municipal de Petra.
