The Partido Popular recover the Balearic Government

The Partido Popular with 30 seats, two more than the previous legislature, will have the necessary majority in the Parliament to recover the Government of the Balearic Islands. In this way, Jaume Matas will once more occupy the presidency of the Govern, relevating Francesc Antich in the post. The political parties that supported the present Govern, grouped together to form the so called Progress Pact, will pass to the opposition with 29 seats shared between PSIB-PSOE, that goes from 13 to 15 seats, Pacte Progressista d'Eivissa, that goes from 6 to 5 seats, PSM-Entesa Nacionalista, that goes from 5 to 4 seats, Unió Mallorquina, that keeps their 3 seats, and Esquerra Unida-Els Verds, that goes from 3 to 2 seats.

As for the insular councils, integrated by the members of parliament elected on each island, on Mallorca there is still the possibility that the Progress Pact could continue, as the parties that support it keep 17 seats against 16 of the Partido Popular. Even so, it will be seen if Unió Mallorquina, to keep Maria Antonia Munar in the presidency of the Mallorcan Council, will reedit the Progress Pact or if it will pact finally with the Partido Popular. On the island of Menorca, Joana Barcelo will continue in the presidency of the insular council as the PSIB-PSOE obtained 6 seats that together with the seat obtained by the Nationalists PSM-Entesa represent the majority in opposition to the 6 seats obtained by the Partido Popular. Finally, in the Pitiüses, Pilar Costa will leave the presidency in the hands of Pere Palau, as the Partido Popular obtained the majority with 7 seats on Eivissa and 1 on Formentera, as opposed to the 5 seats obtained by the Eivissa Progress Pact.
