Nuclear aircraft carrier in the bay of Palma

GOB and Greenpeace warn of nuclear threat.

The USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71), propelled by two nuclear reactors and prepared to carry nuclear weapons, is expected to anchor in the Palma bay from September 13 to 18. The ship from the US Navy has 332.85 meters of length, carrying capacity for 85 aircrafts and can reach a speed of 30 knots.

Greenpeace has warned in a press release about the nuclear threat against Mallorca. The GOB has also expressed in a press release its concern and has requested to the Balearic and Spanish governments to demand the immediate departure of the nuclear aircraft carrier. The opinion of the environmental organisations contrasts with the view of some economical groups that have expressed their satisfaction for the expected income that the over five thousand members of the crew will generate during their stay in the city of Palma.
