Gatherings of birds in fairs and markets banned

The wetland of s'Albufera considered high risk area.

The Spanish "Comité Nacional de Alerta Sanitaria Veterinaria" has declared as bird flu high risk areas 18 wetlands in Spain including S'Albufera in Mallorca. This measure involves the prohibition of outdoors poultry-breeding to avoid contact with migratory birds in a radius of 10 kilometres, including the municipalities of Santa Margalida, Muro, Sa Pobla, Alcúdia and Pollença. The Autonomous communities may enlarge the risk area to other wetlands.

The committee has also banned the gatherings of birds in fairs and markets.
