International Jazz Festival in Sa Pobla
Five concerts between July 27th and August 25th.
The Sa Pobla Jazz Festival in Mallorca has reached its 15th edition. More than thirty musicians will perform in five concerts between July 27th and August 25th sure to impress with their top quality music.The weekly concerts are free and take place in both the symbolic location of the Plaza Major and the new siting of the Can Cirera Prim park.
Starting off the festival, is a group led by Joe Lovano, one of the most renowned musicians in the world of contemporary jazz. Following this group, is the Galician double bass player, Baldo Martínez, one of the composers most representative of European jazz. Dee Dee Bridgewater, one of the best female jazz singers, will begin those concerts held in Can Cirera Prim park.
The representantives of music on our island will be the members of the group Hugo Sócrate Funky Time, a diverse musical team. The concert to close the festival will be performed by professional musicians and students at the end of the Travelling School's Seminar. They will performn live, putting into practice all that they have learnt over the five days of the Jazz Seminar, which, coordinated by Jimmy Weinstein, celebrates its 4th edition this year.
The music concerts are complemented by a magnificent paintings exhibition by Pere Reus, which will run throughout the Festival in the Sala Se Cavallets in Plaza Major. During the music festival the film David, Moffett and Ornette. Paris 1966, will be shown, made by the film enthusiast, Dick Fontaine, about a concert by one of the authentic jazz legends, Ornette Coleman.
