The Associació Balear d'Amics dels Parcs is starting a new
line of action aimed at the recovery and preservation of the natural heritage
of our islands.
The Associació Balear d'Amics dels Parcs (
ABAP)
and the Missioners dels Sagrats Cors de Mallorca have signed an agreement,
in which as from now the ABAP will administer the natural area of
s'Empriu, property of the mentioned religious congregation, for a period
of 4 renewable years.
The natural area of s'Empriu will be administered by the ABAP as a microreserve,
becoming in this way the first natural area of this kind on the Balearics,
although this protection figure is frequent in other communities of Spain.
The private natural microreserve of s'Empriu, situated in the municipality
of Algaida, in the Natural Area of Special Interest of the Massís
de Randa, in fact on the south side of the mountain of the same name, occupies
an area of approximately 40.000 m2. Amongst other natural wealth
of the area, most outstanding are the lower hills, the adult pines and
the rich fauna, particularly the birds.
Within the objectives of the preservation and recovery of this important
natural area, are tasks for the regeneration of the forests, the prevention
of fires, the recover of ethnological elements, the preservation and recover
of the fauna of the area and the maintenance and phitosanitary treatment.
The administration work is not aimed at public use of this area, but rather
a strict preservation.
According to the ABAP, over the next few months, if the negotiations
progress, other private natural areas can be added to this administration
model. The protection association stresses that the administration
of natural areas has always been in the hands of private owners and thinks
that it is with them that work must continue for preservation. For
this reason, the ABAP offers to hold conversations with any owner of property
situated within a Natural Area of Special Interest (ANEI) who is interested
in its preservation for nature and wishes the property to be administered
as a protected natural area.
