The Mallorcan record company, Produccions Blau, has reached an agreement
with the firm
Ritmoteca.com, based in Miami to sell music of the
Balearics in MP3 format via Internet. Five CDs can already be acquired
from Ritmoteca.com by five artists of the Balearics:
Biel Majoral, UC,
Música Nostra,
Ximbomba Atòmica and
S’Albaida. Each song can also be
acquired independently for $1.99.
Via this initiative, Producions Blau wishes to take advantage of the new
technologies and ways of distribution for digital music, to continue
with the constant objective of reaching the maximum promotion of the
Balearic artists integrated in the record company.
Since it was founded in 1982, Produccions Blau has produced and edited
the greater part of Balearic records, including all styles but
particularly folk and traditional music. It also carries out an intense
activity to promote the Balearic music production abroad, participating
in the most important international fairs, such as the
latest edition of
Midem in Cannes.
Meanwhile, Blau also participates in many other promotional cultural
activities in the Balearics. At the moment, Miquel Àngel Sancho,
manager of Produccions Blau and the popular music shop, Xocolat, is
participating as a consultant for the project for the creation of the
first radioformula in Catalan that will be broadcast as from September
1, by SOM Ràdio, a project promoted by the
Council of Culture of the
Balearic Government and administered by the
Grupo Serra.
Miquel Àngel Sancho has collaborated with MallorcaWeb in several
projects. The first one, in 1998, was the creation of the web for
popular composer-singer from Algaida,
Biel Majoral, coinciding with the
edition of the artist's first CD, "
Vou veri vou per no dormir", where,
for the first time in the short history of Internet, the sound of the
authentic Mallorcan ximbomba could be heard online all over the world.
Later, in the same year, the
Especial Música was created which included
songs in Real Audio by ten Balearic artistes. At
Christmas 1999-2000,
the traditional chant of the Sibil·la, interpreted by Pere Antoni
Canyelles Pons of Els Blavets de
Lluc was put on line. More recently,
with the publication of the second record by Biel Majoral, the page for
the new record was created, "
Temps, temps, temps...".
Finally, mention must be made of the fact that Produccions Blau is also
present on the net via the distributor,
Discmedi, based in Barcelona,
founded in 1989 by Miquel Àngel Sancho, together with other partners.
